Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick regrets offence’s struggles in finishing games properly
Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick has expressed disappointment over the offence’s inability to finish games properly.
Following Week 6 defeat against Detroit Lions, Vick regretted the turnovers that the Eagles are unable to control and said that the game should have been won by Eagles. According to the details present on the team’s website, Vick said:
"We put ourselves in a position to win games and we don’t finish. It’s hard to decipher what mistakes are being made and what’s going on.”
He added:
“I think the bottom line is we had our chance to win this game."
Vick is certainly right because Eagles had a firm grip over the game when it was about to end. The Eagles had a 10-point lead with less than six minutes left in the regulation.
However, Lions surged back and completely rattled the Eagles as they scored a touchdown and a field goal to level the score and force the game to overtime. Eagles’ defence was helpless during the last five minutes, while the offence was also unable to impress.
In overtime, Eagles had the ball possession, but Vick was sacked a couple of times, forcing Eagles to punt the ball rather than continuing the playing drive.
After receiving the punt, Lions did not face any trouble in setting up a field goal and win the game.
Vick said of the overtime play:
"It’s very frustrating. That’s our shot. That’s our opportunity and it changed the dynamics of the game. After the first possession, a field goal wins the game. These sorts of things just can’t happen. We all have to do our jobs and be accountable. We didn’t
get it done on offence."
Eagles’ defeat against Lions has pushed them at second spot in National Football Conference (NFC) East, which is led by defending champion New York Giants. Washington Redskins are also tied with Eagles as far as number of victories and defeats is concerned.
As Eagles head to their bye week, they need to do a thorough review of their overall performance in the first six weeks of the season. In order to qualify for the playoffs, they will have to come out after the bye as a different unit.
