Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick up for carrying the ball – NFL News
Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick’s biggest worry this season is to protect the ball. Just in the first five games, he has conceded 11 turnovers, and he is now up for protecting the ball in a better way.
Vick threw four interceptions is the season opener against Cleveland Browns, while he sent two interceptions in the second game of the season against Baltimore Ravens.
The quarterback controlled his interceptions in the next three games, but in total he has so far given away five fumbles.
As Eagles prepare to face Detroit Lions for Week 6 game, Vick is hoping to spend the entire game without throwing any interception or fumbling the ball.
According to the details present on the team’s website, Vick has practised the entire week leading up to the game to secure the ball. He has also sought assistance from running backs, who rush with the ball and ensure the ball protection. Vick said:
"I’ve taken tips from some of the running backs who carry the football. I love football so much and with all the football I’ve watched - this entire week I’ve watched guys carry the football – and everybody has it high and tight. Even quarterbacks that I’ve
watched. It’s something that I definitely need to do. There’s a comfort level that I’ve been able to develop when holding the football."
Eagles are tied with defending Super Bowl champion New York Giants atop National Football Conference (NFC) East and they must keep on winning more games so as to maintain the lead in the division, which is very competitive.
However, if the offence keeps on repeating the fumbles, Eagles might not be able to retain their lead in the division. These flaws can badly hurt their playoff chances and given that the Eagles have a very talented roster, it would be utter disappointment
if they did not reach the postseason.
Vick has done well in practice to protect the ball, but the real game environment is more challenging and the quarterback needs to adjust with the game pressure to play well against Lions. Vick seems upbeat about the task. He said:
“I always talk about being in the moment and being able to do the right things when you’re out there playing. It’s very important."
