Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick wants team to stay strong – NFL News
Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick has urged the team to stay strong at this declining phase, saying that only tough teams can attain success in the National Football League (NFL).
Speaking of the team’s positive start to the 2012 season followed by an inexcusable slump that has jeopardised Eagles’ playoff chances, Vick asserted that the players must not give up.
According to the details present on the team’s website, Vick said:
“We started out 2-0, we lost one and came back and won a big one against New York [Giants] and now we've lost four straight. That's tough. That's tough on you mentally. You have to stay strong. Only the strong survive in this game.”
The quarterback added:
"We have to find a way to figure it out. I think we have the coaches to do it and I think we have the players to do it. The best teams are doing that right now.”
Eagles’ woes are not just restricted to Vick’s failures at quarterback. They are struggling on other offensive positions along with dealing with declining performance of the defence and special teams.
On the offence, Eagles are unable to convert their playing drives into scores. Even in their Week 9 game against New Orleans Saints, they reached near the end zone a number of times, but could not finish the drives as intended.
Vick, apart from throwing interceptions and fumbling the ball, is also facing problems in terms of protection on the field. He has been sacked a number of times and that is not a good omen for Eagles.
Eagles head coach Andy Reid is still optimistic that the team can stage a turnaround and recover from the slump. The same happened at the end of the last season when Eagles won four games in a row to end the season 8-8 without qualifying for the playoffs.
The late winning streak saved Reid’s job as well, but it must not be ignored that Eagles are now in somewhat a must-win situation if they need to better their record as compared to the last season.
Vick said:
"We're going to keep fighting. That's all we can do. There is no other option here.”
