Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick’s future – NFL Feature
Philadelphia Eagles veteran quarterback Michael Vick played his last game of the season on November 11, 2012 against Dallas Cowboys.
Vick left the ground in second quarter due to concussion. Rookie quarterback Nick Foles replaced him and started his National Football League (NFL) career. Vick was then moved to injured reserve.
The veteran quarterback has played nine NFL seasons in his career, since being drafted by Atlanta Falcons as the first overall pick in 2001.
He was signed by Eagles in 2009 on a one-year contract, right after serving 21 months imprisonment for violating the NFL conduct policy by getting involved in illegal interstate dog fighting ring.
At that time he had to prove himself as a good and experienced player. He got the chance to start only one game with Eagles in the 2009 season.
In the 2011 season, Vick’s performance was improved and it was his best NFL season as he finished with 253 of 423 passes for 3,303 yards and 18 touchdowns and 14 interceptions.
Eagles finished the last season at 8-8, which was not good as they had finished their 2010 season with 10-6 record.
These records are far better than the current season, though. At present, they are placed at the bottom of the National Football Conference (NFC) East.
Vick could not perform well throughout this season. He completed 185 of 316 passes for 2,165 yards and scored 11 touchdowns with nine interceptions.
As a starting quarterback, he helped his team to win three games out of nine. He failed to perform like a veteran player in this season.
On the other hand, Eagles head coach Andy Reid took the decision to start Week 11 game against Washington Redskins with Foles. He gave a chance to the rookie at a crucial stage of the season.
Foles did not touch the victory in first three starting games, but he proved himself a good player and showed his capabilities of winning games in Week 14 against Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
He was 32 of 51 for 381 yards and scored two touchdowns without any interception and broke the Eagles’ long losing streak.
Reid has a lot of expectations from his rookie quarterback, but these expectations will not lead them towards the better ending of this season.
It is Reid’s 13th year as Eagles’ coach and it could be the last as rumours are doing the rounds that he might be fired after the season.
In his long tenure, he has helped his team to win 120 games, most win total in NFL history. However, now it does not seem right position for Reid, Eagles’ fans are disappointed with him, and some of them want him to resign from this post.
Nobody is sure what is going to be the decision of Eagles’ owner Jeffrey Lurie about Reid.. Lurie has already said “another 8-8 finish will be unacceptable”.
The season is about to end soon and now it seems impossible for the Eagles qualify for the postseason.
As Foles is making his place in the team, and grooming his performance week by week, it will get difficult for Vick to make a comeback again.
At the end of the season, Eagles may trade Vick or let him spend another season with them as backup or starting quarterback.
