Philadelphia Eagles release defensive end Jason Babin – NFL News
Philadelphia Eagles released their defensive end Jason Babin on Tuesday.
Eagles have lost seven straight games and this situation has made them take surprising decisions like releasing the two –time Pro Bowler.
Babin was signed as a free agent in 2011 and he won Pro Bowl honour for recording 18 sacks with 40 tackles and three forced fumbles. In this season he has 5.5 sacks with 26 tackles and two forced fumbles.
Babin said about this situation:
"Honestly, my situation, maybe it was the best thing for me. I've learned in my life now not to judge any situation or any action or person too quickly."
According to him, when he received a call from Eagles head coach Andy Reid, he already knew it was not for something good. Talking of what Reid informed him about his release, he said:
"He wants to give the other guys a chance to play and give me a chance to move on earlier than later."
Reid said of Babin:
"We appreciate everything that Jason has given this team over the last couple of years. We wish him all the best as he continues his career. By releasing him today, this gives us an opportunity to give more playing time to some of the younger guys in the
defensive line rotation."
Nobody knows whether this decision is going to work out in future or not.
The young players who are expected to join in are rookie Vinny Curry, who has not started any game yet. He was drafted as 59th overall pick in second round of the 2012 National Football League (NFL) draft by Eagles.
Phillip Hunt, who has played eight games this season and has five tackles, is another option. He was signed in 2011 as a free agent.
Brandon Graham has 15 tackles, 1.5 sacks and a forced fumble. He was selected as 13th overall pick in first round of the 2010 draft by Eagles.
Eagles have won three and lost eight games, they are standing at 4th position in National Football Conference (NFC) East.
They are going to play their Week 13 game against Dallas Cowboys on Sunday, December 2.
