Philadelphia Eagles rookie quarterback Nick Foles gearing up for his first NFL start – NFL News
Although Philadelphia Eagles have not yet ruled out quarterback Michael Vick for Week 11 game against Washington Redskins, it is expected that rookie quarterback Nick Foles, who took the first-team reps on Wednesday, will make his first National Football
League (NFL) start this Sunday.
Vick is out with a concussion that allowed Foles to make his debut last week against Dallas Cowboys, and with the veteran’s chances for the game very dim, the rookie is expected to get his first NFL start.
According to the details present on the team’s website, Foles said after taking the first-team reps on Wednesday:
"I'm ready. I'm excited to just play again. Like I said (after the game), all of my prayers are with Mike. I want Mike to be healthy. It's my time to go out there and do everything I can for this team and help in any way possible."
Foles’ performance in his debut drew positive responses, but certain areas for improvement were also highlighted. The rookie did well to replace the veteran, but could not secure victory for the Eagles, who are struggling in National Football Conference
(NFC) East with very little or no playoff chances.
Foles is up for learning as many things as possible and extracting all the possible gains out of this opportunity. Sharing his plans of playing better, Foles said:
"The key is to play fast, not be afraid to make mistakes. If I do make a mistake, keep firing it. That's the big thing when you play quarterback is you're going to make a mistake. You're going to fire the ball in there, something's going to happen.”
Meanwhile, the rookie has already earned respect and support from his teammates. A day earlier, a number of players extended their support to the rookie, backing him to do better on getting a start.
For Eagles, these are difficult times. With playoff contention almost out of sight and their senior quarterback injured, they have a young gun to lead the charge of offence. It could also prove to be a blessing in disguise because Foles’ performance can
also help the management decide Eagles’ prospects for the next season.
