Philadelphia Eagles rookie quarterback Nick Foles gets support from teammates – NFL News
Philadelphia Eagles rookie quarterback Nick Foles made his National Football League (NFL) debut during last game when Michael Vick was forced out with an injury. The rookie replaced the veteran and performed relatively well, but could not prevent his team’s
defeat.
With speculations regarding Vick’s long absence continue to grow, many of the Eagles’ players have thrown support behind the rookie who could get the starting role in the next game if Vick is unable to recover.
Foles, who was drafted earlier this year, performed impressively in the preseason and earned respect of many critics. He made his debut in a difficult scenario as the team was already struggling on the field while its playoff chances were also on the line
to an extent.
He did turn the ball over and made some other errors, but his overall performance in his first NFL game was appreciated by everyone.
Now the players are backing him to get the first start of his career. According to the details present on the team’s website, Eagles guard Evan Mathis appreciated Foles and predicted a bright future for the rookie. Mathis said of Foles:
"He picked up the offense pretty quickly. He's a very smart kid. He has incredible physical talent; very good natural ability. Has a pretty good arm on him and I think he's going to have a bright future in the NFL."
Meanwhile, cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie also shared the same sentiments and urged other players to keep supporting the rookie. The cornerback said:
"I like Nick. I see Nick every day in practice from being the scout team quarterback and I see the passes he's capable of completing. The main thing is guys have to pull together and rally around him and let him know that we believe in him."
It is somewhat unfortunate for Foles to have received playing time when his team’s chances to qualify for the playoffs are almost over. However, he can certainly help the team end its miserable five-game losing streak and with a few more games left in the
regular season the rookie could he lead the team to a better finish.
