Philadelphia Eagles rookie quarterback Nick Foles hopes to get better – NFL News
Even though Philadelphia Eagles veteran quarterback Michael Vick could not perform well right from the start of the season, the team did not give a chance to this year’s draft pick Nick Foles, who had done reasonably well during the preseason.
However, Foles got an opportunity to play in an unexpected manner when Vick was forced out of the game against Dallas Cowboys in Week 10 owing to a concussion.
Foles replaced Vick in the second quarter and looked promising. However, he struggled with his accuracy and gave away a couple of turnovers that helped in shaping up the game’s outcome that did not go in Eagles’ favour.
Foles was 22 of 32 for 219 yards while throwing one touchdown. He was sacked two times for the loss of 11 yards.
In the final quarter, before which both teams were tied 17-17, Eagles gave away three touchdowns while scoring only one.
The touchdowns resulted not because of Cowboys’ heroics on offence, but because of Eagles’ sloppiness. Foles’ interception was returned for a touchdown, while Cowboys also scored a touchdown each on a punt and a fumble return.
According to the details present on Eagles’ website, Foles regretted his mistakes after the game, hoping to get better in future. The rookie quarterback said:
"I made some mistakes. I can’t turn the ball over and that’s the most important thing to win games. You can’t turn the ball over. I turned it over twice and they ended up being touchdowns and I can’t do that. But that’s a learning experience. I’m going to
learn from it and get better."
As long as Vick is out, it is expected that Foles will continue to lead the Eagles’ offence. Vick’s status was not determined immediately by the team and head coach Andy Reid said that he will make an announcement after receiving results of Vick’s medical
examination.
Foles has said that he is not thinking about his prospects at the moment and focused on getting wins for the team. He said:
"I’m just focused on this game right now. I’m not worrying about that. All that’s the coaches. Right now I’m praying for Mike’s health.”
