Philadelphia Eagles rookie quarterback Nick Foles impresses others – NFL News
After a successful offseason, Philadelphia Eagles rookie quarterback Nick Foles performed brilliantly during the preseason opener against Pittsburgh Steelers last week and his performance has earned him praise of many senior players and officials.
A third-round pick of this year’s draft, Foles was impressive on the field. He completed six out of 10 passes and gained 144 yards while scoring two touchdowns. Eagles won the game 24-23.
Foles’ performance has earned him praise from Eagles’ starting quarterback Michael Vick, who thinks that the rookie can become a great quarterback in future.
According to the details present on the team’s website, Vick said of Foles:
"His poise has really impressed me. His decision making obviously, and he has a big time arm. I think Nick has all the ingredients to be a great quarterback in this league. It may take some time, it may not. He has all the intangibles of what it takes."
Eagles head coach Andy Reid is also not behind when it comes to admiring Foles’ skills. The head coach is of the view that the rookie quarterback is improving every day and that he is adjusting into the system nicely.
While mentioning that Foles has not disappointed the team, Reid said of the rookie:
“We’ve got a load of plays in for him and he’s able to recite those properly. Now it is just making sure he’s got everybody down and that comes with reps but I would tell you we knew he was smart coming in and he hasn’t disappointed us in that area.”
It is certainly a great achievement for the rookie to have received appreciation from the head coach and veteran quarterback. However, he must keep his focus on the next preseason games and refrain from complacency.
The Eagles have three more preseason games to play before they start their regular season campaign on September 09 against Cleveland Browns.
In their preseason games, Eagles will now take on New England Patriots (August 20), Cleveland Browns (August 24) and New York Jets (August 30).
Foles is going to be a backup to Vick in the regular season. It is expected that he will be backup number three. The player has hoped to gain trust of the management by performing consistently well.
