Philadelphia Eagles rookie quarterback Nick Foles takes first-team reps as Michael Vick stays out again
Philadelphia Eagles rookie quarterback Nick Foles took the first-team reps for the second day on Thursday as veteran quarterback Michael Vick, who was sidelined during Week 10 game against Dallas Cowboys owing to a concussion, was still not seen anywhere.
This strongly implies that Foles is heading towards his first National Football League (NFL) start as the Eagles prepare to face National Football Conference (NFC) East opponents Washington Redskins in Week 11 this Sunday.
Eagles head coach Any Reid, who is yet to rule Vick out of Week 11 game, did not present any official version about the veteran’s participation against Redskins.
However, it now seems unlikely that Vick will play. This is because Vick will have to clear a few NFL protocols before being able to step on the field again.
Since the league follows strict safety measures, Vick will have to clear some physical tests and later get a green signal from an independent neurologist. If the player clears both these hurdles then he will be able to practice with his teammates and get
ready for the next encounter.
Since Vick did not practise on Wednesday and Thursday it is now believed that he will not be able to clear the mentioned hurdles in time, even if he feels he is hundred percent fit.
If Foles start against Washington, Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan will not have anything new on his plate. Although for a brief period, Shanahan coached Foles during Senior Bowl.
According to the details present on Eagles’ website, Foles said of coaching under Shanahan:
"They helped me grow as a player. I was there for a week and I learned a lot from them just fundamentally and practicing. It was my first time practicing with NFL coaches so just learning from that was my first taste of it. So, I’m thankful for them for
helping me in that situation in the Senior Bowl and it was a good experience for me.”
Meanwhile, Shanahan has also appreciated the rookie’s skills saying: “He’s big, very strong, got great arm strength.”
Redskins also have a rookie quarterback leading their offence.
