Philadelphia Eagles’ safety, Nate Allen, gearing up for next season – NFL News
Philadelphia Eagles’ safety, Nate Allen, who played the last National Football League (NFL) season despite not being hundred percent fit, has spoken of high ambitions for the next season, saying that he has already started preparing for the 2012 season.
Allen, who still needs some more years to learn all the tricks of the trade, has rather been unfortunate as he received a serious injury during his rookie season and was forced out of it.
He started his professional NFL career with Eagles in 2010 and got the starting role in the regular season as the team’s regular safety had received an injury before the start of the season.
In his rookie season, he played and started 13 games in which he recorded a total of 48 tackles and 2.0 sacks.
He recovered slightly for his second season, but because of the NFL lockout, he could not train properly and had to play the season without getting completely fit.
However, his performance was still commendable. He started 12 games last year while playing 15 in which he registered a total of 59 tackles.
Before the start of the next season, Allen now has the opportunity to participate in Eagles’ organised team activities (OTAs) and work with his teammates and coaches to ensure better performance in the next season.
According to the details present on the team’s official website, Allen is pretty much pleased to have this opportunity and working hard to be hundred percent fit for the upcoming season.
He said of this opportunity:
"It's nice being with the team. Last offseason was kind of crazy and hectic because everybody was on their own, but it's good to get back with the guys. As far as last season goes, everybody was kind of on their own working out. We weren't able to get in
the classroom and really learn the defence as much as we wanted to, so now we're able to do that."
Even Eagles’ general manager, Howie Roseman, is impressed with Allen’s performance and thinks that a little more playing time could certainly highlight the player’s true potential.
Roseman said of Allen:
"He's got all the skills you look for in a safety - incredible athlete; he's a smart kid; he's got really good ball skills; he can tackle; he can blitz. He's just got to put it all together."
