Philadelphia Eagles select quarterback Nick Foles in third round of 2012 draft – NFL News
Philadelphia Eagles have selected quarterback, Nick Foles, in third round of 2012 National Football League (NFL) draft.
Foles was selected as 88th overall pick on Friday, April 27.
Eagles already have Michael Vick serving at quarterback position and Foles is expected to serve as his backup. However, his performance during the training camp will determine exact course of his future.
Foles has not yet signed any contract with the team.
Apart from Vick and now Foles, Eagles also have two more players, Mike Kafka and Trent Edwards, for the quarterback position. It also means that Eagles could trade any of the players after the draft, but nothing has been speculated about such development
at the moment.
Before being selected by the Eagles, Foles had paid a pre-draft visit to the team’s headquarter. During the visit, he met with the team officials including head coach, Andy Reid, and said that he would feel comfortable playing for them.
Although Foles is still new to the professional sports, Eagles think that he could develop into a strong player in the coming years. However, it was also highlighted that Foles should work hard to improve his accuracy.
While appreciating the player’s talent, Reid told media after the draft that Foles is a good athlete. The head coach also said that his selection was a unanimous decision of all the team coaches.
He said:
"I like the way he throws the football. Then he's also a smart guy, which helps. It's a different offense. He's going to have to learn this offense, but that's ok. He's smart enough to do that. It was unanimous with our coaches, they all liked him. We'll
see how it works. I'm curious to get him in here and see him throw the football around."
When asked about the presence of four quarterbacks on the roster, Reid acknowledged that everyone will have to compete to prove his worth.
He said:
"They're all competing. I can tell you I don't know Trent as well, but I know Mike Kafka and I like what I've seen from Mike. I like what I've seen from Michael Vick.”
Meanwhile, Foles has also said that he is aware of the competition and that he will try his best to prove his worth.
