Philadelphia Eagles set to make some ‘tough decisions’ – NFL News
As the deadline to cut the roster short to 53 players comes closer, the Philadelphia Eagles have to make a few tough choices as it will not be easy for them to release around 20 players who have been part of their roster during the past few months.
Eagles head coach Andy Reid is of the view that the decision is going to be very tough, but the coach is also excited on the prospects of extracting the best 53 players out of the available options.
According to the National Football League (NFL) rules, all teams have to reduce their roster to the mentioned number of players before the start of the regular season. During the offseason, teams can have around a little over 90 players on the roster.
Eagles have monitored performance of all the players during training camp and preseason games and now it is time to prepare the final squad that will represent the Eagles in the regular season.
According to the details present on the team’s website, Reid said of cutting the roster short to 53 players:
"I think there are going to be some tough decisions. I think we've got some competition at spots. It won't be easy. That's a good thing though, that's a good thing.”
The head coach added:
“We tell the players when they come here, 'You make it as hard as you possibly can on (general manager Howie Roseman) and I to make that final cut. You come out and give it every snap, every opportunity you have, you take advantage and make it your best
snap.'"
Reid further said that those players who will not be able to make it to the Eagles’ regular season squad can avail other opportunities. He said of the players:
“If they make our team, more power to them. If they don't, it gives them an opportunity to catch on with somebody else.”
Eagles have so far had a pretty good offseason and preseason as they have managed to win all their preseason games. They are going to take on New York Jets in the preseason finale this Thursday and hope to enter the regular season carrying a four-game winning
streak.
