Philadelphia Eagles still shaky, but defeat Baltimore Ravens 24-23 – NFL Recap
After a trembling start to the 2012 season, the Philadelphia Eagles were able to slightly improve their form against the Baltimore Ravens and surprisingly the effort proved enough to beat the visitors, 24-23, on Sunday, September 16, at Lincoln Financial
Field, Philadelphia.
Eagles quarterback Michael Vick improved from his previous game’s performance in which he had sent four interceptions. Against Ravens, the number of interceptions was reduced to two.
However, the quarterback was able to once again provide the game-winning touchdown to his team. Last time, he had done this against Cleveland Browns, while this time Ravens were victims to Vick’s late surge.
Ravens had a slight edge in this game because they are pretty good on offence and defence as well, but Eagles somehow were able to steal the show that otherwise went neck-and-neck.
Eagles had many turnovers during the game and Ravens were unfortunate not to win the game despite getting many opportunities to dominate the field. Vick said after the game:
“It just goes to show how good we can be. It definitely shows how good our defence is because they’re stopping the offence and putting the ball back into our hands so that we can score points. I think at some point we’ll cut down on the turnovers; we’ll
cut back, but it’s still early and we just have to get in tune and stay in sync with what we do in our offence. I think it all starts with me, though."
Eagles took the lead in the first quarter, thanks to LeSean McCoy, who managed a one-yard run for a touchdown. Vonta Leach managed a five-yard run for Ravens in the same quarter to level the score.
Ravens got ahead in the second quarter as their quarterback Joe Flacco sent a 21-yard pass to Jacoby Jones, who got a touchdown, which was followed by a field goal towards the end of the quarter.
Although Ravens have a very strong defensive side, they were unable to contain that lead in the second half and Eagles were able to overcome the deficit and level the score in the third quarter.
Vick sent a 23-yard pass to Jeremy Maclin, who got a touchdown for Eagles. Later in the third quarter, a field goal for Eagles took the score to 17-17.
Ravens got two field goals in the final quarter, making it must for the Eagles to go for a touchdown opportunity. With less than two minutes left in the quarter, Vick was able to provide the desired touchdown as he managed a one-yard run to reach the end
zone and win the game for Eagles.
Flacco said after the game:
“We just didn’t play well enough in that second half.”
Eagles are now 2-0 while Ravens are 1-1 after two games.
