Philadelphia Eagles tight end Brent Celek: We have to play better – NFL News
Philadelphia Eagles tight end Brent Celek has asserted that all the players must perform well if they want to see the team playing in the playoffs this year.
After Week 6 loss the Detroit Lions, who won after Eagles the just blew their lead away, nearly everyone has spoken of the team’s failure.
Eagles started the season 2-0 and got lead in National Football Conference (NFC) East, but their ensuing failures have allowed other teams to progress.
The defence has been a major cause of concern for Eagles as they have not been able to secure lead. This recently led to dismissal of Juan Castillo, who was serving as defensive coordinator.
Many are saying that there are job threats for head coach Andy Reid along with quarterback Michael Vick. There is no denying that if Eagles do not finish this season strong, there will be many changes in the franchise.
This has also created worries for other players including Celek, who said of Castillo’s dismissal, via team’s website:
“It just shows us that everyone’s got to step up. We have to play better. I don’t know what else there is to say. I’ve been saying it for two days. We all have to play better. It starts with every one of us. We all have to look in the mirror and (figure
out) what we can do to make this organization and this team better."
Celek also said that he has respect for Juan Castillo. The tight end commented:
"I love Juan. Juan’s a great guy.”
The player added:
“He’s a hard worker. Things happen in life and you have to move on. I really have a lot of respect for him and I wish him well.”
Eagles are going to play their next game against Atlanta Falcons, but they have their bye this week, which has already seen some major shifts in the team. It is not known if Reid is planning on introducing further changes before the game against Falcons,
but it is certain that every player now must step up his game so as to get wins for the team and secure his job.
