Philadelphia Eagles to call WR Tiger Jones from AFL – NFL News
Philadelphia Eagles are going to invite wide receiver Tiger Jones to their training camp, a section of media has reported.
Jones is currently playing for Philadelphia Soul of the Arena Football League, but he will not be able to play more games with them so as to stay away from any injury scare.
According to the Philadelphia Daily News, Eagles will invite Jones to their training camp, which will start later this month.
It is a great opportunity for Jones to join Eagles squad, but his departure is certainly going to hurt Soul.
Jones said of this opportunity:
"It's definitely bittersweet, but you can't pass up an opportunity like this. They don't come around like this every day, especially in the Arena league. A lot of NFL (personnel) guys look at us like we can't make the transition. For them to give me a shot
says something."
Meanwhile, Soul’s coach Doug Plank has also said that Jones’ absence will be felt, but at the same time the coach maintained that playing in the National Football League (NFL) is also a great opportunity that cannot be ignored. He said:
“There's no question that taking a person of his [calibre] is going to create a vacuum. But, at the same time, you have to look at the bigger picture. If, through this season, we were able to put one or two players into the National Football League, then
it's a win for the AFL."
Eagles already have a strong receiving corps in presence of DeSean Jackson, Jeremy Maclin and other receivers and the addition of Jones, who is a very popular figure in the Arena Football League, will further strengthen the unit.
Just like the 2011 season, Eagles are entering the 2012 as a threatening unit. They are the National Football Conference (NFC) championship contenders and some even think that they could get a shot at the Super Bowl title.
However, the fans had the same expectations with the team last year, but Eagles failed miserably and were eliminated in the regular season.
This time around, however, they are looking stronger, but only their performance will justify their offseason moves including addition of Jones.
