Philadelphia Eagles to start with Casey Matthews against Miami Dolphins – NFL News
Philadelphia Eagles coach Andy Reid has decided to include rookie linebacker Casey Matthews in the starting line-up against Miami Dolphins in the week-14 game of the National Football League current season on Sunday.
Eagles have a very few chances of reaching the postseason. They should win all the remaining four games of the regular season to keep their playoff hopes alive. They have won only four games and lost eight and are placed third
in the National Football Conference East division. They are good on offense, but their defence has not really accelerated throughout this season.
The coach wants to utilise every available option and thinks that Casey has performed well on the scout team and classroom.
"We've got a few different personnel groups," he said. "We're going to try to utilise everybody, really. Casey earned the right to get back in there. He's done well when given the opportunity on short yardage and goal line. Like
some of the other guys who took a step back to take a step forward, that's what we're doing with Casey.”
Casey is playing in his first professional season after being selected by Eagles in the 2011 NFL Draft. He has started three games this season, recording 17 tackles.
He is thankful to have got the opportunity to make another start and said that he will perform well and take advantage of this chance. He also said that he felt a lot more prepared this time.
"During camp, when I was first in there, everything was on the run. This is another opportunity to go out there and show what I can do. I need to take advantage of it this time," he said.
Meanwhile, Eagles’ cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha has said that he is well aware of the playing style of Dolphins’ wide receiver Brandon Marshall.
Asomugha said on Friday that when he and Marshall were playing the American Football Conference, both of them got plenty of chances to face each other. The cornerback also said that he is going to follow Marshall on the field on
Sunday.
A good news for Eagles came this week when the injured quarterback Michael Vick participated in all the practice sessions and said that he was fit enough to return to the team. With him, Eagles will certainly look strong and try
to dominate the Dolphins.
