Philadelphia Eagles’ wide receiver, DeSean Jackson, eyeing Super Bowl after the new deal – NFL News
A day after receiving a new five-year deal from the Philadelphia Eagles, wide receiver DeSean Jackson is now aiming high and while trying to forget the performance in last season, he is focusing on next season, in which, he said, the team could get a shot
at the Super Bowl.
While talking to media on Thursday, March 15, 2012, Jackson was of the view that with so many good players in the team, Eagles can certainly become a force to be reckoned with in the next season.
He said:
“I’m going to guarantee a Super Bowl because we’ve been close the past four years that I’ve been here. Last year, with it being a tough year, just the way we caught on fire towards the end of the year, I see this team as the sky being the limit."
Such claims were also made by the Eagles before the start of the last season. A few players event went on to call the unit a ‘Dream Team’ because of the signing of few star players.
However, the team failed badly at the start of the season and when it found its rhythm towards the end, the playoffs were out of their sight.
Jackson, who is a two-time Pro Bowler, also performed under par during the last season and ended up gaining 961 yards in 15 games he played.
In the previous two seasons, he had gained more than 1,000 yards respectively setting a high benchmark.
That season is over now and since Jackson has also got a new deal, he wants everyone to turn their focus on the next season.
However, he also addressed his critics and said that his performance in the last season was not as bad as it was portrayed.
He commented:
“Even when everyone else can say it's a bad year, I was still 40 yards from 1,000. I don't really like to get caught up in that stuff. I still want to go out and play with the edge that I'm still the best receiver in the NFL."
Jackson’s claims of winning the Super Bowl has once again allured the fans to set high expectations of the team in the next season, but it is yet to be seen whether the claims realise or not.
