Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver DeSean Jackson backs quarterback Michael Vick – NFL News
Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick has not been able to perform well this season. Although the quarterback claims to be doing what he can, Vick’s and the team’s record displays a messy picture.
After securing lead in National Football Conference (NFC) East early in the season, Eagles have slumped badly during the last few weeks. Currently on a three-game losing streak, Eagles (3-4) are sharing second spot in the division with Dallas Cowboys, behind
the New York Giants, who are leading the division at 6-2.
Their downfall has also seen some changes in the staff as head coach Andy Reid earlier fired Juan Castillo, who was serving as defensive coordinator.
It was also expected that the Eagles would also introduce some changes in the playing squad, but nothing noticeable has been observed yet.
However, it had been widely speculated before Eagles’ bye week in Week 7 that Vick might also be benched if he did not perform well.
When Eagles came off their bye, they faced the Atlanta Falcons, who are still undefeated and have won seven games in a row.
Against Falcons, Vick completed a total of 21 passes of 35 attempts for 191 yards and scored a touchdown. That, certainly, was not enough.
After the game, even Vick mentioned that he would accept the coach’s decision if he decided to bench the quarterback and introduce a backup quarterback at his place.
However, Eagles wide receiver DeSean Jackson believes that Vick should not be blamed for the team’s failures. The wide receiver is of the view that the burden of defeats cannot be put on just one player or official.
Taking to ESPN Radio's "Mike and Mike in the Morning", Jackson said, via ESPN:
"You can't never blame it on one man. There's been turnovers and things like that, but as far as Michael Vick and what he's capable of doing, I think he's still an elite quarterback in this football league."
He also said that Vick will remain the starter. The receiver commented:
"As far as I know right now, Michael Vick is going to be the quarterback. I haven't heard of changes or anything like that, so we're still going with the plan."
