Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver DeSean Jackson wants to stay with the franchise in 2012 – NFL News
After the end of his four-year rookie contract, Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver has expressed a desire to stay with the franchise saying that he likes playing at Philadelphia because the ‘young’ team has great energy.
Jackson also apologised for his inconsistent performance and admitted that expiring contract remained a distraction for him throughout the season.
"I can admit to certain things affecting me during the season. I just want to apologise," he said. "I probably could have handled it a little bit different, but now sitting here after the season's over I can just say I was able to put it behind me and really
just fight for my teammates, fight for my organization."
Jackson started his professional career with the Eagles in 2008 and rushed for 912 yards with an average of 14.7 yards per catch.
In his second year, Jackson impressed by maintaining an average of 18.6 yards per carry while rushing for a total of 1,156 yards.
Last year, he had 1,056 yards to his credit, but he successfully held a commendable average of 22.5 yards per catch in 14 games.
This season, Jackson played 15 games and managed 961 yards with an average of 16.6 yards per catch. He was benched for one game by the coach for missing a team meeting.
After continuous increase in his average, his slump this year has forced the management to ponder over different options before giving Jackson a new contract. If released, Jackson will be a free agent.
When asked if he was hoping to play for any other team, Jackson refrained from answering and said that he still did not know anything about his future prospects. He also said that he would wait and see how things shape in the days to come before making a
decision.
“It’s a professional game and a business. I wish I could give you an answer and say whether I will be here or not, but I really don’t know. We will just see how it all plays out.”
Jackson’s fate could have been decided earlier if the Eagles had performed well in the season. They fought well after early failures in the season, but those were not enough to get them an entry into the playoffs.
After winning and losing eight games respectively, the Eagles finished second in the National Football Conference East division, which was dominated by New York Giants with nine wins.
