Philadelphia Flyer captain Chris Pronger’s return from concussion problems uncertain – NHL News
There is a little or no hope at all for return of Philadelphia Flyer’s captain, Chris Pronger, this National Hockey League (NHL) season, as his wife at a local fund raiser reported no change in the condition of her husband.
Pronger has been suffering from concussion like symptoms and has not played for his side or practice with the team since November last year (2011).
His injury status, as his spouse said, remains the same, which makes his availability to the team an unlikelihood for rest of the current season.
Lauren Pronger, the player’s wife said of his injury:
"Unfortunately, I can't report any major improvement."
Lauren, who is co-chairperson of the team’s annual charity event, added:
"I certainly wish I could. It's very disheartening."
The player’s injury has already made him miss most of the games this year and without many hopes of his recovery he might loose the chance of playing in the entire season.
Due to the injury, the player could not make it to the Flyers Wives Fight For Lives Carnival, an annual programme, which is organized to generate funds for local charities.
His wife who was present at the event refrained from giving any details on the injury and recovery status of her husband except for that "He is not himself and it's not in a good way."
The player’s spouse linked the condition of her husband to Flyers’ former captain, Keith Primeau, who had suffered similar concussion related problems and could not recover. At the end, the injury ended his professional career.
She added:
"That has been brought up a lot lately. There are a lot of parallels between the two. I think Chris is starting to realize now that he should be in communication with him, to know what is ahead for him. The more insight you can get, the better off you are.
You kind of know what to expect and what you are going through.”
Lauren did not comment more on the recovery chances of her husband, and apparent absence of her hopes indicate to be not a good sign for the player.
The captain has performed well throughout the professional hockey run and it will be disappointing for the team, the family and above all for the player himself to see his career over due to the injury.
All his teammates have spoken of their hopes and ambitions regularly to have Pronger back from injury to play hockey with the team for more seasons to come.
Flyers, in the meantime, can only hope that the player’s injury is not career threatening one, he makes himself available before start of the next season. His comeback will benefit the team and they will again have their squad to its potential strength.
