Philadelphia Flyers, Jaromir Jagr reported to be in contract talks -NHL Update
Fortunately, the National Hockey League (NHL) and fans will not be seeing all top level players leave this season as reports have emerged that legendary forward, Jaromir Jagr, and Philadelphia Flyers are negotiating a contract extension for the upcoming
2012-2013 regular season.
With Nicklas Lidstrom retired, Tim Thomas deciding not to play next year and Anaheim Ducks’ Teemu Selanne still to make a decision, Jagr’s agent as in one way confirmed his availability for the next hockey year.
Talking to CSNPhilly.com’s Tim Panaccio, Jaromir Jagr’s agent confirmed that they are in talks with Philadelphia Flyers general manager, Paul Holmgren.
"I've talked to Jaromir and I have talked to [Flyers GM] Paul [Holmgren] and we hope to get something done before the draft," Jagr’s agent, Petr Svoboda, told the website.
Jaromir Jagr made a last year comeback into the North American hockey league after leaving following the 2008-2009 regular season. He was brought on with a $3.3 million offer by Philadelphia Flyers after much speculation to which team would bring him on
board.
It is believed that his next contract with Philadelphia Flyers just might be longer than one year and also bigger in terms of salary. Prior to leaving the league, Jagr was making up to $11 million a year, one of the highest in NHL history.
When contacted, GM Holmgren, also made the confirmation.
"We have interest in Jaromir," Holmgren said.
After their early ousting from the 2012 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs, there were rumours about this being the year that Jaromir Jagr would throw in the towel and finally retire from the league, but luckily, he has changed his mind since then and will continue
playing.
It was quite clear that prior to signing with Philadelphia, Jagr was looking for a team that would able to help him win a Stanley Cup for possibly the last time and that this past season was a benchmark for him.
With 54 points (19 goals, 35 assists) in 73 regular season games, it seems like Jaromir Jagr definitely still has it in him to continue competing at the NHL level.
It is expected that both stakeholders will come to a mutual agreement before the upcoming NHL Entry Draft.
