Philadelphia Flyers, Wayne Simmonds reportedly agree to 6-year, contract extension -NHL Update
It seems like top rated young forward, Wayne Simmonds, will be staying in Philadelphia with the Flyers after reports emerged on Thursday, August 16, 2012, that the two stakeholders have agreed upon a six-year contract extension for a cool $24 million.
According to his new, which has not been officially announced by any source at the moment, will be giving him an annual salary of $4 million for the next six years. The huge boost comes well deserved as his previous two-year; $3.5 million contract definitely
had him underpaid.
At the age of 23-years-old, Simmonds, a right winger from Scarborough, Ontario, Canada, picked up 49 points (28 goals, 21 assists) last season in a perfect 82-game performance. It was his first year with Philadelphia after being involved in a major blockbuster
traded with Los Angeles Kings prior to the 2011-2012 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season for Justin Williams.
Simmonds was quick to adjust into his new role with the Eastern Conference team after having seen himself as a permanent member of the Kings franchise.
For now, Simmonds still has one-year remaining on his contract, which will pay his $2 million for the upcoming season and double that amount every season following for the next six. Now, the only thing Wayne Simmonds can be hoping for is that his deal does
not be affected by a collective bargaining agreement negotiation between the NHL and Players’ Association.

league and consistent as well.
The deal finally comes after 45 days into the negotiating period as the NHL free agency officially kicked off on July 1st. In order to avoid any possible transitions next season, Philadelphia Flyers have decided that locking him on now will keep
the talented forward on the club during his prime years in the hockey league.
