Philadelphia Flyers' James van Riemsdyk not in need of hip surgery -NHL Update
Fortunately for Philadelphia Flyers forward, James van Riemsdyk, the young player will not need to undergo surgery on his right hip in order to repair a torn labrum according doctors which the club consulted with on Friday, June 15, 2012.
Philadelphia Flyers general manager, Paul Holmgren, was the one to make the announcement.
"After consultation with various doctors regarding James' hip injury, we have come to the conclusion that surgery is not necessary," Flyers GM Paul Holmgren said. "We will treat James' hip with alternative therapies and non-surgical procedures. It is expected
that James will be 100 percent well before training camp begins."
Good thing for Riemsdyk as the player would have needed at least six weeks to recover in order to return to the game at 100 percent, but now he can focus on a much sooner recovery process from the injury.
It was during the 2011-2012 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season that Riemsdyk faced the injury along with a number of others as well. The 23-year-old had all sorts of experiences consisting of an abdominal strain, broken foot and a concussion, with
this being the latest of them.
Riemsdyk managed to play just 43 games during his third season with the Flyers for 24 points (11 goals, 13 assists) due to the various injuries but was back in the playoffs for another seven contests.
It was reported by multiple sources that James van Riemsdyk was also looking for a trade during the offseason and could have delayed the surgery due to negotiations, but both the club and player came out to quash the rumours.
"I love my teammates in Philadelphia. Management has treated me extremely well. Honestly, I'm the type of person that, if a team did not want me here, I would not want to be here. I certainly would not hold anything up," Riemsdyk said.
The native of Middletown, New Jersey, is currently on a six-year contract with Philadelphia Flyers worth $25.5 million, which will keep him on the club till July of 2018.
For now, there are no further details about a possible trade, but also, nothing can be ruled out either.
