Philadelphia Flyers' Scott Hartnell lives up to promise, will Donate $1,000 for every fall in ASG
Showing his humbleness, Philadelphia Flyers’ veteran left winger and member of the 2012 National Hockey League (NHL) All-Star Game roster, Scott Hartnell, will live up to his promise of donating to charity $1,000 for every time he will fall during the game
on Sunday night, January 29, 2012, in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.
Hartnell was recorded to have fallen four times during the mid-season contest, bringing up his total to $4,000 that he will now have to donate to a charity, which is part of his Hartnell Down campaign.
Playing for Team Alfredsson, Scott Hartnell also vowed on the same day as the 2012 Tim Hortons NHL All-Star Game to pitch in an extra $1,000 for each goal that he would score, but unfortunately, was unable to pot in a single one during the star studded competition.
Other players on the ice knew of his commitment and tried to push him down as many times as they could find the chance, while some would try and trip him and others looked for opportunities to shove the player, all in a friendly manner.
"(Claude) Giroux was trying to trip me on the faceoff’s," Hartnell said. "He got me down during warm-ups once."
Former Philadelphia Flyers player and now part of the Toronto Maple Leafs line-up, Joffrey Lupul, was also trying his best to take Hartnell down.
"I got him once in the first period," Lupul proudly boasted. "I don't know if anyone saw. I said it after he fell down. This is great. He said on the bus he was going to look to hit me. We talked about it a little bit. He's just a fun guy. We built a really
good relationship playing together. Today we both had the microphones on the whole game and I could hear what he was saying."
Playing with Vancouver Canucks’ Daniel and Henrik Sedin is rare for Hartnell and being side-by-side on the ice with the well known hockey twins, he regarded it as something that came as exciting for him and really liked spending time with the two.
Being an example for others, Scott Hartnell is known to actually implement the term, “Charity starts from home”.
