Philadelphia Flyers’ Chris Pronger may need back surgery among others due to injuries sustained
Chris Pronger has probably had one of the worst 12 months of his career. He has been on the end of three surgeries already and there is a chance that a fourth one might take place sometime soon.
Pronger said himself that this year was “the year from h**l” for him.
Flyers’ general manager said that Pronger was out of action due to a lower back injury that he sustained.
Things got worse for him with the hamstring injury that kept him out of the semifinals against Boston Bruins. Pronger himself said that there is a chance that the surgery might take place.
"I've got to see what the doctors say, what their recommendations are and weigh the pros and cons to whatever it is we decide to do", he said.
Pronger was still not sure as to when or how he sustained the injury but he said that he started feeling something in his back in the seventh game against Buffalo Sabres in the first round of the playoffs.
He also added that the amount of time he spends on ice has nothing to do with the injury and there is something else that has caused this.
Chris Pronger is an important part of the Flyers’ line-up and he was surely missed by the team in the first round when he was out.
Flyers fell behind 3-2 against Buffalo Sabres but Pronger’s return in Game 6 and 7 certainly showed that he was an important part of the team as he guided Flyers to the series win.
Without him Flyers has been on the struggling end of things as it has managed to win only six out of its last 16 games.
"I really felt like we missed Chris in the Boston series", Laviolette said. "You saw the damage (Boston's Zdeno) Chara was doing at the other end of the ice and the difficulties we had. Let's be honest -- we didn't generate what we needed to generate in
the offensive zone and (Pronger) plays half the game. You remove Chris from a scenario like that … you're taking an elite defenseman who plays half the game out of your lineup".
Troubles are all but over for this player as there numerous operations coming his way.
If the surgery takes place, then he would be in bed for some time. After this, he will be sidelined even further as he is expected to have a knee surgery in August which will be followed by a surgery to his hand and foot.
This has done a great deal of damage as Pronger played only 50 games during the regular season and in the end resulted in Flyers suffering defeat at the hands of Boston Bruins in the semifinals.
