Philadelphia Flyers Claude Giroux could be heading abroad -NHL Rumours Update
After a number of big name players heading out of the National Hockey League (NHL) during the current lockout, Philadelphia Flyers Claude Giroux could be next as the leading forward is reportedly in contact with a number of clubs of the Russian, Kontinental
Hockey League (KHL), according to sources.
According to Giroux’s agent, Pat Brisson, the forward could be heading out to Russia and play with the Avangard Omsk, while he was taking to the Courier-Post.
Due to their being no excitement and nothing to look forward to, Claude Giroux is looking to continue playing instead of waiting out to see whether the league and Players’ Association will be able to working something out in order to save the upcoming regular
season.
“I’m a little bored here just working out and want to go back to playing in games and just having that rush of playing in a hockey game,” Giroux told the Ottawa Citizen. “I mean, when you have to get used to doing nothing, it’s not really fun. This summer’s
getting to be a little too long right now.”
Economic issues have been cited by many players as being a factor that could most likely lead to a long term lockout and having that said, they are not willing to wait around and waste time here when they could be playing overseas.
“You would absolutely hope that things progress and kind of catch fire, but right now we’re just going to take it one step at a time and try to come to an agreement on as many issues as possible,” said former player Mathieu Schneider, now an NHLPA special
assistant to the executive director. “We’re taking baby steps right now.”
Giroux is a 24-year-old right winger from Hearst, Ontario, Canada. He was drafted as the 22nd overall by the Philadelphia Flyers back in 2006.
The forward has 285 games under his belt at the moment and 243 points (78 goals, 165 assists). He is also currently under contract with the Philadelphia Flyer till the 2013-2014 regular season comes to an end on a three-year, $11.25 million deal.
News of his signing could be announced anytime in the upcoming days.
