Philadelphia Flyers Claude Giroux headed overseas -NHL Update
Not many Philadelphia Flyers players had been seen to be signing on with foreign leagues in order to continue playing while the lockout situation persists in the National Hockey League (NHL), but Claude Giroux took a stand and has reportedly has confirmed
that he will be leaving soon enough.
Many players had been waiting for the league to cancel part of the regular season, which would obviously hint at the situation for the Players’ Association getting worse, and since that has happened now, Giroux and many others are planning on making the
move.
Giroux is still hopeful that the league and labour union will work something out sooner than later, but there is always a chance of the entire season locking out, something which he is not ready to wait for and waste his time in doing so.
“I do believe we’re going to play this year, to be honest,” the Philadelphia Flyers star said after a skate with fellow pros Tuesday at the Bell Sensplex. “The game is doing so well, to go into a lockout for a whole year, that wouldn’t be very smart.”
Another aspect of the situation that has set his mood off is that it looks like the team owners do not care much about how the fans and players feel, which ultimately forces him to reconsider his decision about it all as well.
“It feels like the owners ... that doesn’t really matter to them, if we go a full year with a lockout. Looks like they don’t really care what the fans think, and at the end of the day it’s all about the fans. That’s what is so good about the game.”
Giroux is definitely one of the players on the list of rising stars and has already made a name for himself at the age of 24. The All-Star right winger was drafted as the 22nd overall by Philadelphia Flyers back during the 2006 NHL Entry Draft
and had a breakthrough season last time around by recording an amazing 93 point score, consisting of 28 goals and 65 assists in 77 games.
“Everybody looks forward to the new season,”  Giroux went on to say. “It’s such a good game.”
