Philadelphia Flyers Claude Giroux returning home after Neck Injury in Germany -NHL Update
It looks like Philadelphia Flyers’ leading forward, Claude Giroux, is not going to be taking any risks and is returning home, to North America, in order to get examined by specialists.
Giroux was playing in Germany with the Eisbaren Berlin franchise during the lockout and was scheduled to continue doing so after reports emerged about the minor injury. He was reported earlier to be taking a couple of days off in order to reassess his position,
but it seems like the risk just was not worth taking.
Pat Brisson, Giroux’s agent, has said that he will be seeing the same chiropractic neurologist, Ted Carrick, who looked after Pittsburgh Penguins leading player, Sidney Crosby, due to his concussion and neck related issues. He is based in Atlanta.
"He has been feeling better, but it's not the Stanley Cup Final," Brisson, also Crosby's agent, said of Giroux. "With head and neck issues, I'm always being very careful."
"It's just something I feel you need to be cautious about," Brisson added. "We just want to be careful because he did have concussions before."
"We want to make sure we get the right diagnosis with the neck injury. It's a precaution." "We believe it's a minor injury. He felt better yesterday, but we just don't want to take any chances."
Claude Giroux is a 24-year-old, 22nd overall draft pick of the Philadelphia Flyers during round-one of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft. He has been with the Philadelphia Flyers for the past five seasons now and boasts 285 games played, with 243 points
registered, consisting of 78 goals and 165 assists and 113 penalty minutes.
His best career season was the past hockey year as he potted 28 goals and 65 assists for a total of 93 points, ranking him third overall in the league. Giroux is currently locked on to a three-year, $11.25 million contract with Philadelphia, with an annual
salary cap hit of $3.75 million and will make him a restricted free agent at the end of the 2013-2014 regular season.
It will be interesting to see how Claude Giroux’s situation turns out in the upcoming days.
