Philadelphia Flyers Goalie Ilya Bryzgalov Not Finding Spark in KHL, Unhappy -NHL Update
The 2011-2012 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season might not have been the best restart to veteran goalie Ilya Bryzgalov’s career with a new team, but the goalie is struggling to get into form overseas as well where he plays in the Kontinental Hockey
League (KHL).
According to latest reports, Bryzgalov has been having some issues with the Russian media, who have been going after him due to a poor performance so far in Russia, but the goalie remains strong and committed to getting back in form.
Talking to a reporter from Sportbox.ru after a matchup, seeing that Ilya Bryzgalov was not happy was as clear as water.
“What do you want me to say? You've been writing filth about me and now you are asking for an interview. Go look around; there are so many good players. You can go talk to them. Why me? In reality, my wife, Zhenya, forbade me from giving interviews and so
did my parents. If you call them in Togliatti and they give you their permission, then I might do it. Do you think I'm joking? No, I'm not joking in this case. I am telling the truth,” said the goalie after a matchup.
Currently, Bryzgalov is playing with the CSKA team in the KHL and has been 2-4-0 up until now with a 2.92 goals-against average and disappointing .891 save percentage.
For many experts, this should be a reason of concern for the Philadelphia Flyers, an NHL franchise that locked him on to a huge nine-year contract worth $51 million.
Drafted as the 44th overall back in round-two of the 2000 NHL Entry Draft by the Anaheim Ducks, Bryzgalov has seen better days than the previous season as he had played in 59 games, won 33 along with a .909 save percentage and 2.48 goals-against
average.
In total, Ilya Bryzgalov has 385 games played in the North American major league under his belt along with 189 victories, 132 losses along with a .915 save percentage and 2.52 goals-against average.
It will be exciting to see how the 32-year-old goalie performs in the future.
