Philadelphia Flyers Nicklas Grossmann hurt in Game 4, put on day-to-day -NHL Playoffs Update
Having a player hurt, especially during the playoffs, is one of the worst things that can happen to a team during tense situations and unluckily for Philadelphia Flyers, Nicklas Grossmann, has been put on a day-to-day evaluation basis due to an upper-body
injury.
Veteran defenseman, Nicklas Grossmann, was hit hard by Pittsburgh Penguins, Tyler Kennedy, during their Wednesday night, April 18, 2012, matchup of the 2012 National Hockey League (NHL) Stanley Cup Playoff Quarterfinal series.
He was seen to have difficulty skating back to where his team was and managed to return a few minutes after the hit during the first period of the contest. The injury forced him to leave a little over midway through the second match as the pain became unbearable.
Grossmann made an entry in the playoffs after missing the last three games of the regular season due to a knee-on-knee collision with Penguins’ Joe Vitale earlier in April.
He is extremely valuable part of the Philadelphia’s defence strategy as he is paired with teammate, Braydon Coburn, making them an impenetrable defensive duo when Flyers are looking for a complete shutdown in their end.
Drafted as the 56th overall pick during round-two of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft by Dallas Stars, Grossmann is currently in his first year with Philadelphia after being traded from his original draft team earlier in the regular season.
He played 52 games with the Stars and potted five points, all assists, before being shipped to Philadelphia, where he participated in 22 matchups and registered six assists.
The 27-year-old is currently on a four-year contract worth $14 million with an annual salary cap hit of $3.5 million and $250,000 worth in potential bonuses for the first three seasons.
It was not only one hit that knocked Grossmann out but after coming back from the first, Evgeni Malkin also tackled the player for a second attack which the player uncoordinated while playing.
Whether Nicklas Grossmann will manage to return for a game 5 contest, scheduled for Friday, April 20th, as Philadelphia still has Penguins on the verge of elimination, is still not clear but the upcoming days will make his status clearer.
