Philadelphia Flyers achieve a 6-2 win against the Ottawa Senators
One of the most interesting matches of Thursday was the one with the current league leaders, Philadelphia Flyers hosting the Ottawa Senators. The match was played at the Wells Fargo Arena and was the 700th game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere
Series.
Around 20,000 fans came to witness the match which saw the Philadelphia Flyers come up with a dominating performance which, in the end, was wrapped up by three goals in the final period. Philadelphia Flyers comfortably won the match 6-2 in the end with a
bit of a scare in the second period. Mike Richards, centre of the Philadelphia Flyers was named the star of the match as he scored two goals and made two assists.
Philadelphia Flyers' confidence was sky high and now leading the season, their game was much better than at the start of the season. They started off attacking right from the word go and the way the players gelled together was absolutely amazing to watch.
The home team managed to score through Danny Briere from a long range splendid shot in the 3rd minute. The Philadelphia Flyers continued to attack and kept on piling pressure. The goal attempts continued with the occasional attacks made by the
Ottawa Senators.
Philadelphia Flyers kept on knocking the door and doubled the lead with their second goal in the 5th minute scored by Mike Richards from a brilliant strike. Ottawa Senators also made a few more goal attempts as the period neared its end but no
further goals were scored.
The period ended with the Flyers leading 2-0 as they made 10 goal attempts and the Ottawa Senators made 7 goal attempts.
The second period saw the Ottawa Senators dominate the proceedings right from the start as they fired shots and maintained a very tight defence. The offence was also up to the mark. However, they were caught on a counter attack in the 17th minute
which saw the Philadelphia Flyers scoring through Mike Richards once again.
Ottawa Senators managed to come up with decent pieces of play after this and scored two goals in quick succession to cut the lead to just one goal when the period. The first goal was scored by Milan Michalek while the second was scored by Nick Foligno from
a decent backhand shot.
The period ended with the Flyers leading 3-2 as they made 5 goal attempts in the period while Senators made 13 goal attempts.
The final period of the match was evenly matched by both sides but Philadelphia Flyers were more productive. The Flyers displayed excellent combination and finishing and scored through Scott Harnett in the 8th minute to extend their lead.
Another goal by James van Riemsdyk in the 12th minute sealed the deal for the Philadelphia Flyers. However, the home team pressed on and scored another goal through Andrej Meszaros from a brilliant long range shot in the very next minute.
Ottawa Senators showed little resistance as the period was ending as Flyers absolutely didn’t give them any space. The match ended with Philadelphia Flyers winning the match 6-2 in the end.
