Philadelphia Flyers annihilate Carolina Hurricanes 5-1 -NHL Match Update
The way how Philadelphia’s newly acquired goalie over the 2011 National Hockey League (NHL) offseason, Ilya Bryzgalov, was performing over the past few games forcing the team to have second thoughts on having him starting in the net but with a, 5-1, rebound
against the Carolina Hurricanes reassured the Flyers that there is still hope.
Bryzgalov blocked 24 of 25 shots on Saturday night, October 29, 2011, at the sold-out Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States, snapping Philadelphia’s two-game losing streak and moving them up to the fourth spot in the Eastern Conference
with 13 points.
"Sometimes you just need to turn the switch on in your head and everything change", Bryzgalov said. "It doesn't mean you have to work the next two years to get in shape. You have the ability to play and you just need to fix your head, turn the switch on
and go on".
Scott Hartnell scored the opening gaoling during the opening 20 minutes, quickly coming off the benches as he was penalised for high-sticking at the 4:35 minute mark.
Jussi Jokinen levelled the match 3:11 into the second period for his third of the season, but the final period was all Philadelphia as both teams entered with high hopes to take the lead.
Jaromir Jagr kicked off the scoring 39 seconds into the third followed by Maxime Talbot, shorthanded and Claude Giroux nearly two minutes apart.
Jagr closed the scoring and secured the matchup in favour of the home team with his fifth of the season, giving Scott Hartnell his second assist of the night.
"They do seem to have some chemistry out there", Flyers coach, Peter Laviolette, said of his top line. "Hartsie is playing really well, Jaromir has been impressive since he's been here, and Claude has been outstanding".
The Flyers will travel to Buffalo on Wednesday for their next matchup against the Sabres while Carolina Hurricanes are set to being a three-game series at home, starting off with the Tampa Bay Lightning on Tuesday, followed by the Washington Capitals and
Dallas Stars.
The next three games will be crucial for Carolina as they look to improve their record in the Eastern Conference.
