Philadelphia Flyers’ centre Sean Couturier acts and plays taller than his teenage-NHL News
The entire appearance and actions of Philadelphia Flyers’ rookie star, Sean Couturier, reflect him to be taller and older than his age of mere 19 years, yet he refuses to be bogged down by the excitement of so much success he has achieved at this age.
Almost all members of Flyers’ outfit have noted with praise the level of maturity that Couturier has shown since joining the team.
Despite being praised for his success, the player has successfully avoided to become complacent or lose focus off the future goal.
This was very much evident from his behaviour after the game against the Pittsburgh Penguins in which he recorded a hat-trick.
While responding to questions, he said:
"I haven't really thought about it. It's special right now. It's great, but what is most important is the big win. We bounced back, battled back hard, and that's most important."
His teammates admitted he does not appear to be a teenager. His actions show him someone who has played the professional ice hockey league for about a couple of decades.
Flyers’ 40-year old right wing, Jaromir Jagr, says of Couturier:
"He plays like he would have played for 20 years.”
Jagr added:
"In my hockey career I don't think I've seen somebody that good defensively at a young age. He showed it the first 10 games he played this season, and coach saw it right away. A key faceoff, he's there all the time. I would say he's our best defensive forward
at age the age of 18, 19."
Couturier’s performance has helped Flyers win two games in the playoffs. They have played only two and remain hundred per cent on the course for the Stanley Cup final.
Flyers’ coach, Peter Laviolette, has particularly come out with high praise for the player. He said that he never had any player to have shown so much maturity as Couturier has done and no one can believe from the way he speaks or acts that he is just 19
years old.
According to the coach, the important aspect of his personality is that he has refused to get carried away by huge success he has received in a shorter period of his career and at a younger age.
Other team members have spoken out with the same level of commendation for the player. They all noted that he has a great future ahead of him and the attitude of not taking too much pride in his success is going to be the key to his future success.
The professional ice hockey is too big a stage for player of any age, but Couturier’s readiness to adapt to the demanding environment has impressed the number of game commentators as well.
