Philadelphia Flyers defeat the Dallas Stars 3-2 after shoot-out – NHL Recap
The Philadelphia Flyers defeat the Dallas Stars 3-2 after and exciting shoot-out at the American Airlines Arena on Saturday. The Stars were looking to put in a good performance and get out of the sixth spot in the National Hockey League Western Conference
standings. The Flyers needed a win to maintain their position at the top of the Eastern Conference.
The game started off with the Flyers displaying some magnificent passing and shooting skills, as they managed to score the only goal of the first period. The second period saw the Flyers absolutely dominating, as they scored in the second minute to double
their lead. The Stars also managed to score during the period. The final 20 minutes of play saw the Stars scoring the lone goal to level the scores on 2-2 as the period ended. Ville Leino, winger of the Flyers was named the Star of the Game, as he come up
with some brilliant plays during the match.
The Stars made a few shots on goal, but the Flyers took over from there. Not only did they come up with shots on goal, but their strong defence restricted the Stars’ offence to almost nothing during the course of the period.
The Flyers were able to dominate for a long period of time, as Jeff Carter managed to score off a decent strike in the 19th minute to get into the lead. The period ended with the Flyers leading 1-0. During the period, the Stars made just four
shots on goal, while the Flyers made 9 attempts.
The second period was a little more entertaining, as both teams fired shots on goal quite rapidly. The Flyers were able to benefit early on, as they scored in the second minute through Mike Richards from a superb back-hand shot to double their lead.
The Stars took some time, but finally scored in the 13th minute through Alex Goligoski from a decent strike. The period saw both teams making a few more shots on goal, but no further goals were scored. During the course of the period, the Stars
made 13 shots on goal, while the Flyers managed 10.
In the final period, the Stars’ Stephane Robidas managed to score the opening and important equalizing goal from a powerful strike in the 15th minute. The period ended with the score level on 2-2. The game went into over-time, but no further goals
were scored. In the shoot-out, the Flyers managed to win the game 3-2 in end.
