Canada Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
Philadelphia did not care whether Toronto was out or not, whether they were playing in front of 19,000 plus Maple Leafs fans because Flyers were focused on getting the win by an inch or by a mile.
Flyers gave their high-level rookies the stage to perform any way they wanted and the youngsters like Brayden Schenn, Matt Read and Eric Wellwood dominated the scene playing against one of the biggest National Hockey League (NHL) teams.
"If you look at the rookies we have on the roster, they're all very highly touted," said Danny Briere. "You know that it's going to come at some point. You have guys like Brayden Schenn and what he's done in junior and at the world junior championships.
Sean Couturier was a very high draft pick. Matt Read was highly touted, and everybody wanted him last summer.”
Schenn got off to a wonderful start with two straight goals, bringing up his total to 11 this 2011-2012 NHL regular season by the midway mark through the first. The youngsters 11th came on a power play with Toronto’s Jay Rosehill out for two minor
penalties.
Mikhail Grabovski answered back for Maple Leafs with his 23rd of the year at 14:16.
Wayne Simmonds killed off any Toronto momentum gained in round-one with his 24th followed by Matt Read shorthanded at 12:03.
Philadelphia definitely did not stop there as they kicked off another shooting spree with Eric Wellwood, Jakub Voracek and Wayne Simmonds adding three straight without looking back to take the lead way out of Toronto’s hands with less than nine minutes remaining
to play.
The Flyers’ rookies do not have plans of slowing down anytime soon and are committed on dominating Ottawa Senators the same way at home on Saturday while Toronto will be looking to get back on their feet against Buffalo Sabres the same day.
