Philadelphia Flyers goalie Ilya Bryzgalov not worried about potential lockout -NHL Update
Ilya Bryzgalov, the Philadelphia Flyers’ veteran goalie, became one of the first players to come out and actually speak his mind over the whole confusing situation which has fans in turmoil whether they are going to be seeing another hockey season or not.
The veteran goalie hosts a goaltending school in the city of Ufa, sponsored by the Megafon company, in his native country and looking at how hundreds of spectators showed up to witness the event, Bryzgalov definitely has a say in matters when it comes to
hockey.
The Russian goalie was in the spotlight just a year back as he made a blockbuster transition from the Phoenix Coyotes to the Philadelphia Flyers in a move which was expected to solve their goaltending woes.
During the regular season, Bryzgalov did have a wonderful performance but was knocked down during the intense playoffs as Philadelphia was eliminated in the second round of the 2012 National Hockey League (NHL) Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Asked during an interview with Sovetsky Sport’s Pavel Lysenkov, about why he did not return to his native Russia during the 2004 NHL lockout, the goalie answered by saying that he was still in the learning process and was a part of the Cincinnati club in
the American Hockey League (AHL).
His feelings really came out during an answer when asked about how he felt about the NHL proposing to cut player share of the revenues from 57 to 46 percent along with signing players on an entry level to a minimum and maximum five year deal and eliminated
signing bonuses.
"That's some impudence. I would only answer for myself — this variant is not acceptable. But maybe one of the players will be happy [and say] 'Wow! Great terms!'"
Bryzgalov himself is on a nine-year contract with Philadelphia Flyers and believes that current contracts will be unaffected by any such proposal, if agreed on, but new ones will definitely have to go by any new implemented rules.
For Philadelphia, Scott Hartnell and Braydon Coburn are the men representing the Flyers’ side and fortunately for many fans, Bryzgalov sincerely does not believe that the league is heading into another lockout.
How much of it is true? Only time will tell.
