Philadelphia Flyers host New Jersey Devils
The first game of Saturday will be hosted by the Philadelphia Flyers as they are scheduled to meet the New Jersey Devils. If the Philadelphia Flyers manage to win the game, this would be their 1000th home win but with the New Jersey Devils making
a comeback and piling up some decent results, things are not going to be as easy as it sounds.
This will be the fifth amongst the six meetings that are due to take place during the course of the season. Only the first out of the previous meetings during the season was won by Devils and that too after shootout.
On the other hand, Philadelphia Flyers have won the last three consecutive meetings with Danny Briere being the difference maker in all of the three games. The most recent meeting between the two sides took place on the 8th of January 2010 which
saw the Philadelphia Flyers edge out 2-1. James van Riemsdyk and Danny Briere were both among the goal scorers with Brian Boucher making 34 saves.
Chris Pronger returned to the defence of the Philadelphia Flyers this Thursday as the Flyers were up against the Ottawa Senators. The match saw Chris coming up with some excellent defending and coupled with that were the two assists he made as the Flyers
won the match 6-2.
"Chris was steady as always," Flyers coach Peter Laviolette said following the victory. "He gets back in there, makes good decisions, and takes up a lot of space. He had looked good in practice. It's good to get him back going; it's good to get a win with
him in there. I thought he did a good job."
The Philadelphia Flyers host the New Jersey Devils sitting in first position after notching up 37 wins and scoring 67 points. Philadelphia Flyers are not only on the winning the road but every win from now on may result in their names being written in history
books. Currently, they are tied in the third spot for scoring most points after playing 47 games.
The last time out when the Flyers were up against the Ottawa Senators, they came up with an absolute gem of a performance, with all the players contributing and goal keeper keeping things safe at the back which resulted in a 6-2 win for them in the end.
On the other hand, New Jersey Devils have played 46 games so far out of which they have won 14 games in regulation time with another 3 in overtime scoring 31 points. New Jersey Devils are currently in the last position in the league but with some strong
performances recently they would surely give the league leaders a tough time.
When Jacques Lemaire took over as head coach of the New Jersey Devils, they lost seven out of eight games. However, recently they have gotten into the flow and with managed to win 4 games out of the last five games with all the wins coming in regulation
time.
Ahead of the match, Philadelphia Flyers are definitely the stronger of the two teams to win with players like Claude Giroux scoring points in last 4 games and Danny Briere scoring points in the last 8 out of his 9 games.
