Philadelphia Flyers keep the pressure on the Canucks with a 3-1 against the Dallas Stars
One of the top table clashes of the weekend was hosted by the Philadelphia Flyers at the Wells Fargo Arena as they were up against the Dallas Stars. This was the 787th game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series and was the 53rd
game of the season for both teams respectively.
The game was pretty much even throughout the three periods but Flyers scored in each of the three periods while Dallas Stars scored once which handed Dallas Stars the win 3-1. Brian Boucher, goal keeper of the Philadelphia Flyers was named the star selection
of the match as he made 30 saves and allowed only one goal.
"We're not going to get a shutout this year," Boucher said. "It's just not going to happen. We'll just keep trying to win games and we'll be happy with that."
Both teams made a strong start to the match which saw them waiting for spaces to develop after which they construct some brilliant plays. There were strong shots on goal from both sides with Dallas Stars being the stronger of the two sides when it came to
playing flow. Their attacks were well worked and there was smoothness in the way they moved forward.
One thing that the Dallas Stars was lacking was finishing. They had several goal scoring opportunities but failed to convert them into goals. On the other hand, the second team in the league Philadelphia Flyers grew in confidence with the passage of time
and finally broke the deadlock in the 19th minute to get into the lead. The goal was scored by Andrej Meszaros from powerful strike.
The period saw a few more goal attempts after the restart but Flyers still led 1-0 at the end of the first period. During the course of the first period, Flyers made 13 goal attempts while Dallas Stars made 9 goal attempts.
The second period saw the home teams start stronger of the two teams and it didn’t take them long to score. Flyers successfully doubled the lead in the 2nd minute with the goal scored by Darroll Powe. Both teams continued to attack but once again
it was Dallas Stars who were more dominant when it came to attacking.
The away side managed to pull one goal back as they scored through Brenden Morrow in the 13th minute from a brilliant flick shot. Dallas Stars continued to attack till the very end in search of the equalizing goal but this didn’t happen and the
period ended with Flyers leading 2-1. During the period Dallas Stars made 14 goal attempts while Flyers made 8 goal attempts.
The final period was again a close and entertaining battle which saw both teams attacking and defending very well. But the involvement of all of the men in the attack surely meant goals.
Only one goal was scored during the course of the final period which was scored by Jeff Carter in the 11th minute from a brilliant quick fired shot. Both teams continued to attacks as they had been during most of the match but no more goals were
seen.
The period and the match ended with Philadelphia Flyers winning 3-1 in the end. During the period, Flyers made 11 goal attempts while Dallas Stars made 8 goal attempts.
