Philadelphia Flyers looking to add defensive depth -- assist Ilya Bryzgalov -NHL Update
Philadelphia Flyers, surprisingly, have not benefited from this year’s National Hockey League (NHL) offseason as of yet and hoped to fulfil their need of depth on the defensive end of their team with Nashville Predators’ captain Shea Weber, but also lost
out on that as well.
They also lost Jaromir Jagr, who signed on with Dallas Stars in order to get them back into the playoffs along with Matt Carle, who joined the Tampa Bay Lightning. Carle was their veteran defenseman and has resulted in a deep loss to the team.
Frustrated Flyers general manager, Paul Holmgren, then went on to offer Shea Weber $110 million for the next 14 years but Nashville Predators were quick enough to lock him on instead by matching the deal and not playing it out like expected.
Many fans have termed the need for Anaheim Ducks’ disgruntled forward Bobby Ryan to re-join the club but Philadelphia Flyers do not see the need to do so at all. They are currently confused as to what sort of role is in play for the young forward and how
he could be a contributing factor for Philadelphia.
What Philadelphia Flyers had really been looking for was Ilya Bryzgalov to be assisted by a top level defenseman as he failed to play magic in the net last season. They really disappointed during the playoffs and hoped to add some backup to the veteran goalie,
but have not managed to secure any valuable talent as of yet.
The blue line for Philadelphia certainly needs strengthening and could possibly make them the only team at the moment hoping for a lockout to come into play so they can work out their issues at that part of the squad.
What seems to be even more illogical in trading for Bobby Ryan is that Anaheim Ducks general manager, Bob Murray, is also looking for a defensive player to add depth to the squad, which is something Philadelphia cannot even think about doing.
With time winding down with the passing of each day, it will be interesting to see how the team will make its moves.
