Philadelphia Flyers negotiates with Ilya Bryzgalov after acquiring him from Phoenix Coyotes –NHL Updates
It is been a little over a week since Philadelphia Flyers has acquired veteran goalie, Ilya Bryzgalov, from Phoenix Coyotes and has now started the negotiation process with the 30-year-old on Friday, June 17th, by discussing details of the contract
with his agent.
Phoenix Coyotes was forced to trade Ilya Bryzgalov’s negotiation rights since it could not reach a deal with him on a future contract and he was coming close to becoming an unrestricted free agent on the first of July.
Byrzgalov was reported to have been asking for too much money and since Coyotes is already in a turmoil regarding salary cap issues, fulfilling Ilya’s requirement was near impossible for it.
"We have spoken with Ilya and his agent Ritch Winter about many different scenarios", Flyers’ general manager, Paul Holmgren, said. "As for now, we both know each other's position and have agreed to speak again next week. There will be no further comment
at this time".
In place of Bryzgalov, Phoenix did not really receive anything that would fill the gap left by its first-choice goalie for over four seasons.
Coyotes received a third round draft pick for the 2012 NHL Entry Draft and future considerations along with forward, Matt Clarkson.
Bryzgalov has played a total of 326 NHL games with various NHL teams so far after being drafted in the 2000 NHL Entry Drafts as the 44th overall pick in the second round by Anaheim Ducks and boasts a record of 156 wins and 116 losses throughout
with a .916 saves percentage.
The 2010-2011 regular season was one his best seasons in the NHL which actually gave him a bigger perspective about the league.
He won 36 games and lost only 20 games that he started. He led Coyotes to its second straight playoff’s season but Coyotes was clean swept by Detroit Red Wings in the quarterfinals’ series of the playoffs.
Philadelphia certainly has a chance to fix up a situation right now that has hurt them in previous seasons.
It all depends on how it wants to play its cards at the moment which will most likely be announced later on this month.
