Philadelphia Flyers plays host to Pittsburgh Penguins in the fifth of their six meetings of the regular season
Philadelphia Flyers will host Pittsburgh Penguins in another one of important games on Thursday.
This will be the fifth out of the six scheduled meetings between the two teams during the course of the season.
Both teams will be facing each other for the first time in the year 2011. The final game of the series will be played on the 29th of March, five days later.
Penguins managed to win the second game between the two teams, 5-1.
However, Flyers have won three games in the series and in their last game on the 14th of December, Flyers not only won the game by 3-2 but also ended a 12-game winning run of Penguins.
Both teams are pretty much close to each other in the Atlantic Division and the race extends to the level of the Eastern Conference.
Flyers is five points ahead of Penguins and a win for either of the teams would be crucial.
The Conference and Division leading Flyers will need to step up its pace if it wants to seal the first position in both.
However, Penguins is in hot pursuit as it looks to score the vital points to keep hopes of winning the Division and the Conference alive, despite losing some of its important players like Evgeni Malkin and Sidney Crosby.
The list of important players missing from Penguins’ roster also includes another important player, Mark Letestu.
In their last game against Detroit Red Wings, Penguins managed to come up with a decent performance that saw them winning 5-4 in a shootout. The amazing thing after the win was that Penguins won a game in Detroit for the first time in over two years.
Penguins was in a good position in its last game against Red Wings, a game which it was leading 4-0. However, it threw away the lead and allowed Red Wings to level the scores on 4-4 once again.
Penguins managed to win the game 5-4 after a shootout in the end with James Neal scoring the winning goal.
Penguins has played 73 games during the course of the season out of which it has won 42 games in regulation time and eight games in overtime to score a total of 92 points.
On the other hand, Flyers has played 72 games out of which it has won 44 games in regulation time and nine games in overtime to score 97 points.
Flyers lost its last game by 5-4 against Washington Capitals but it was an interesting game that saw Flyers coming back after falling behind by three goals.
"From a team standpoint it was a good point, but from my standpoint I'm disappointed," Boucher said. "I didn't make any saves in the shootout, and I feel like I could have done more."
