Philadelphia Flyers rally to overtake Toronto Maple Leafs 4-3 -NHL Update
Philadelphia was under immense heat after losing three straight to teams like New Jersey Devils and New York Islanders but the Flyers managed to snap their slump, overtaking the Toronto Maple Leafs, 4-3, on Thursday night, February 9, 2012, at the sold-out
Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States.
Toronto has also now lost two straight, with this one against Philadelphia being on the day when the National Hockey League (NHL) announced the venue of their 2013 Winter Classic Game against the Detroit Red Wings.
Scott Hartnell was playing strong in the matchup as he made the opening goal for his 26th of the 2011-2012 NHL regular season at the 14:38 mark of the first period along with setting up the tie-breaker later on in the second.
Hartnell also exchanged fists with Toronto’s Dion Phaneuf, showing that he still has not lost his fighting skills just yet.
"We were cycling, we had the confidence going and we had some chances," Hartnell said. "We work well together."
Losing to a team facing a three-game slump was definitely embarrassing for Toronto, who were coming into the matchup looking to move up in the Eastern Conference rankings but still barely manage to hold on to the eighth number spot with 62points.
"They were a team that lost three in a row, and they just took it to us in the first." Maple Leafs head coach, Ron Wilson, said. "We coughed up the puck too much. We worked so hard to make it 2-2. We just have to learn from it."
Tyler Bozak scored the equaliser 54 seconds into the second but Philadelphia’s Maxime Talbot got the best of him by scoring the tie-breaker once again nearly three minutes later.
Joffrey Lupul took advantage of the only power play advantage given to them during the period but Philadelphia answered right back with two straight sponsored by Claude Giroux and Brayden Schenn.
Tyler Bozak added his second of the night at 18:09 of the third, bringing Toronto within one of levelling the score but as the Maple Leafs failed to add anymore in the third, Philadelphia took the win.
