Philadelphia Flyers sign Czech Republic’s Jakub Voracek in a four-year deal worth $17 million –NHL Update
On Thursday, Philadelphia Flyers, in a desperate attempt to make their roster strong and give some depth to their bench, have signed Czech Republic’s forward Jakub Voracek in a four-year deal, which is worth $17 million.
Jakub Voracek is a former Columbus Blue Jackets’ player, who played for them in three seasons, playing almost all of the games, before being traded to Philadelphia Flyers in exchange of former Philadelphia Flyers player and forward, Jeff Carter.
The Czech national, who won a world championship with Team Czech Republic in 2010, will get $4.25 million every year for next four years which is almost double of the amount that he got for one year in his previous contract.
Last contract that he signed with Philadelphia Flyers was for just one year and Voracek had got $2.25 million for that.
Philadelphia Flyers were very disappointed and heartbroken when they lost out on Shea Weber, a player that they were after for a long time and had even presented a very interesting and huge offer sheet for. They had even lost out on defenseman Ryan Suter
and forward Zach Parise, both of whom signed for Minnesota Wild.
Paul Holmgren, general manager of Philadelphia Flyers is still thinking positive as he wants his team to look at ways to get better. He wants his team to be best while going into training camp as he said,
"We really like our team, we certainly don't want to make any drastic changes, but we are going to continue to look at ways to get better. The object is to have the best team going into training camp and that's what we're going to do”.
He also added that he is happy that they have got Jakub under contract as he said,
"We are happy to have Jake under contract," Philadelphia general manager Paul Holmgren said, "and look forward to him being a big part of our future."
Voracek had a great season last year as he scored 18 goals, 31 assists, 49 total points in 78 games but he is still looking to get better as he said,
"The season I had last year was pretty successful and I know if I work hard, which is what I've been doing all summer, I can get better and better”.
