Philadelphia Flyers snap Nashville Predators five-game winning streak 4-1 -NHL Update
Nashville looked to be unbeatable after ending the month of January with five straight wins, but Philadelphia had other things in mind as the Flyers cooled down the rowdy Predators, 4-1, on Thursday night, February 2, 2012, at the sold-out Wells Fargo Center
in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States.
Wayne Simmonds has definitely shown that he has been able to adjust to his new team which picked him up during the 2011 National Hockey League (NHL) offseason in a trade with Los Angeles Kings for Mike Richards in a blockbuster deal.
He picked up two goals against Nashville.
"His confidence is growing," Flyers’ coach, Peter Laviolette, said. "He's a difficult person to get the puck from. He holds onto the puck and makes plays."
Wayne Simmonds scored his 14th goal of the 2011-2012 NHL regular season with less than five minutes remaining in the opening period after the Flyers managed to kill of two straight penalties given by Jaromir Jagr and Matt Carle, both for hooking.
Matt Read added their second straight at the 14:32 mark of the second on a breakaway, unassisted to put Philadelphia ahead, 2-0, entering into the third and final 20 minute phase.
Not being able to take advantage of the multiple added man advantages, the Nashville team was frustrated, costing them the game in the end.
"We kill a five-on-three and usually the team that makes the kill gets the momentum, but we gave it right back to them when they scored," Predators’ coach, Barry Trotz, said.
Ryan Suter added Nashville’s first and only of the night nearly midway through the third but Wayne Simmonds killed the momentum gained by the Predators with his 15th on the power play at the 15:19 mark while Claude Giroux added another nearly
three minutes later.
"We got great depth," Simmonds said about the way his team played Thursday night. "From lines one to four, anyone can score. It's great to have depth."
Nashville Predators will have the next two at home in order to get back in form as they host the St. Louis Blues on Saturday and Vancouver Canucks on Tuesday.
Philadelphia Flyers will also be staying at home to host the New Jersey Devils on Saturday.
