Philadelphia Flyers win 2-1 against the Carolina Hurricanes
The second game of Thursday saw the Philadelphia Flyers play host to the Carolina Hurricanes at the Wells Fargo Arena. This game was very important as Canucks lost their game yesterday against the Ducks so Flyers with a win could close down the gap on them.
This was the 817th game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series which saw the Flyers and the Hurricanes make a decent start to the game. Though there were quite a few scoring chances early on but the fact that shots were made by both teams resulted
in no goals during the first two periods. However, during the final period Flyers scored twice and managed to emerge as 2-1 winners of the game. Goal keeper Brian Boucher was named the star selection of the game for making 31 saves in the game.
Both teams made a decent and cautious start to the game which saw them waiting for chances to come their way and open spaces to develop. Though some splendid pieces of play were observed in the opening part of the period but no shots on goal were seen. Both
teams lacked a lot in the department of shooting early on.
However, things started to change as the period progressed with both teams starting to near the goals and finally shots on goal started to be observed. There were exchange of some excellent passing and shooting by both teams but unfortunately the failed
to find the back of the net.
The period ended with the scores level on 0-0 with Philadelphia Flyers making 7 goal attempts while Carolina Hurricanes made 5 goal attempts.
Philadelphia Flyers continued on the same roads from where they left off in the first period. There were several goal attempts made by the Flyers at the start but they weren’t able to carry the momentum for too long.
After a few minutes passed the Hurricanes started to come out strong in their offence as well as defence. There were several goal scoring chances for the Hurricanes as they came up with some excellent pieces of play. There were several occasions where it
looked that a goal would surely be scored but this didn’t turn out to the case.
Carolina Hurricanes were definitely stronger in the period than the Flyers. Not only this, but their offence even better than the offence they displayed in the first period. The second period didn’t see any goals either and ended with the scores deadlocked
on 0-0 with Hurricanes making 12 goal attempts in the period while Flyers made 7 goal attempts.
The final period of the game saw Flyers making a great start as they set the home crowd wild scoring within the first minute of the game. The goal was scored by Jeff Carter from a well placed flick shot. The period saw both teams come out with an attacking
mentality which from the looks of it told them to score as soon and as many goals as possible.
The second goal of the game took some time coming but was finally scored through Danny Briere in the 12th minute after a wonderful Claude Giroux assist. Though Carolina Hurricanes scored through Tuomo Ruutu in the next minute but they couldn’t
score any further goals as the period and the game ended with Flyers winning 2-1.
