Philadelphia Flyers win 4-1 against Chicago Blackhawks
Chicago Blackhawks playing host to the Philadelphia Flyers was an important game of the season for both sides. The match was expected to a very tight and closely fought battle. This was the first game of Sunday and the 725th game of the season
which was played at the United Centre with an attendance of around 22,000 fans.
The match was evenly matched in terms of shots on target and pieces of play but at the end saw the Philadelphia Flyers turn the tables in the final period to win the match 4-1 in the end. Jeff Carter, centre of the Flyers was named the star selection of
the match for his two goals and an assist.
The match kicked off with both teams looking to score as early as possible. In doing so, there were some splendid pieces of play along with numerous goal attempts early on. There were several occasions where it looked as if the puck was destined to find
the back of the net but unfortunately this didn’t happen.
The passing on show by both teams was the icing on the cake which enabled them to get past the opposing defence regularly. Despite the several goal attempts made by both teams, no goals were scored and the period ended goalless. During the course of the
period, Chicago Blackhawks made 11 goal attempts while the Philadelphia Flyers made 9 goal attempts.
The second period started off with the Philadelphia Flyers totally dominating the proceedings displaying excellent combination along with strong shooting. The away side was rewarded immediately with a goal in the very first minute which was scored by Jeff
Carter from close range for their hard work.
The period continued with the Philadelphia Flyers dominating the game and making goal attempts from everywhere on the pitch. Flyers almost doubled their lead in the 10th minute through a brilliant shot but the goal keeper made a brilliant save.
The period ended with the Philadelphia Flyers leading 1-0 at the end. During the course of the period, Philadelphia Flyers made 19 goal attempts while Chicago Blackhawks ended with some resistance at the end making 9 goal attempts.
Philadelphia Flyers came out in the final period looking to make productive attacks rather than just trying to attack. The away side did just that and doubled the lead with Nikolay Zherdev’s wrap around shot in the 3rd minute.
A few minutes later, Jeff Carter was on the score-sheet once again as he scored from a simple tip in shot to extend Flyers lead to three goals. The Chicago Blackhawks with some decent passing and shooting managed to pull one back in the 7th minute
through Marian Hossa but it was Philadelphia Flyers who struck the final blow to seal the match. The final goal was scored by Scott Hartnell from a brilliant tip in shot in the final minute.
The period and the match ended with the Philadelphia Flyers winning the match 4-1. During the final period Flyers made 6 goal attempts while the Hawks made 11 goal attempts.
