Philadelphia Flyers wins 3-2 against Toronto Maple Leafs while chasing the top spot of the league
The second game of Thursday was played at the Air Canada Center as the home team Toronto Maple Leafs was up against the Philadelphia Flyers.
The game was expected to be very entertaining as the Flyers chase the top spot in the league while Maple Leafs look to move in the play-off cut.
The Flyers like all their games during the season made a great start and led at the start of the first period. The Flyers managed to score once again early period with the Maple Leafs also bagging a goal.
At the end of the second period it was the Flyers who led 3-1. Thought the Maple Leafs scored once again, they weren’t able to score any further goals as the game ended with the Flyers winning 3-2 in the end.
Claude Giroux of the Flyers was the star of the game as he scored a goal and made an assist.
Both teams made decent start to the game but it was the Flyers who were coming up with regular shots on goal.
The Flyers were successful in scoring in the fifth minute during power play through Andrej Meszaros from a powerful strike.
The Maple Leafs with the home support also came up with some scoring chances but they failed to find the back of the net.
The Flyers didn’t lack behind as they too constructed play and it looked as if they would score more goals.
This didn’t happen as the period ended with the Flyers leading 1-0. During the period, the Flyers made 12 shots on goal while the Maple Leafs made 9 shots on goal.
The second period started off with both teams attacking right from the word go. The Flyers scored their second goal in the 10th minute through Darroll Powe from a decent strike.
The Maple Leafs weren’t far behind as they also came up with some brilliant plays.
The Maple Leafs managed to score in the 12th minute through Mikhail Grabovski from a decent strike to cut the lead to a single goal.
Both teams continued to attack and it was the Flyers who scored in the 15th minute through Claude Giroux to double their lead.
The period ended with the Flyers leading 3-2. During the period, the Flyers made 14 shots on goal while the Maple Leafs went into the break making 13 goal attempts.
The final period of the game started off on the slower side but the attacks started to increase and become more venomous with the passage of time.
There were a few chances for both teams but it was the Maple Leafs who scored the only goal in the period through Joffrey Lupul from a brilliant flick shot.
Both teams made a few more shots on goal but there weren’t any as the game ended with the Flyers winning 3-2 in the end.
