Philadelphia Phillies’ Chase Utley expected to appear in Spring Training - MLB Update
As Philadelphia Phillies are going through a terrible time at Spring Training, reports signalling an early come back of Chase Utley indicate a healthy sign for the club. Not only Utley, their most dependable slugger Ryan Howard is also set to start training
soon.
In light of these developments, Phillies' fans have lot to cherish in upcoming games, probably enough to see them rid of their troubling losing streak they are suffering currently in Grapefruit League.
Phillies’ manager Charlie Manuel looked extremely confident this time about the return of second baseman Utley and believed that he will shortly be a part of the bunch.
“I’d say it’s coming up pretty soon,” Manuel said. “It’s going to be a few days yet, but then he’ll start pushing his workouts up.”
As batters are disappointing in every game, terrific batting average of .290 and 694 RBIs Utley has brought in his career along with his 188 home-runs testify the extent to which his club has missed him in games played so far.
Not just his hitting ability, energy he employs on the field and his leadership abilities makes him one of the most active players.
Apart from batters, Phillies' starting pitcher, Roy Halladay, also fared poorly in today’s game against Minnesota Twins adding to the concerns of team management. Concerning aspect of his show was his inability to generate pace, something that has been his
hallmark characteristic for years. If he does not get back to his typical 90 and 92 mph, he is going to suffer big time, much to the distress of his side.
Meanwhile, the club will be hoping to see Utley gain the confidence of his manager by the time he faces live pitches, something that will determine his inclusion in the next couple of games.
“He’s going to get going here pretty soon,” Manuel said. “More than likely when he starts, he’ll start getting some live pitching and we’ll see where he’s at.”
With the regular season approaching fast and two of their batters showing signs of making an early return, the Phillies are looking for an improved performance. If the manager is able to help Halladay come out of mental frustration he has been put under
by his poor performance, Phillies will have their chances lifted immensely for the season.
