Philadelphia Phillies’ Cole Hamels ousts Washington Nationals in Phillies’ 4-1 victory – MLB News
Cole Hamels pitched a five hitter and contributed a run with the bat, as the Philadelphia Phillies cruised to their 19th win of the season, beating Washington Nationals 4-1, at Citizens Bank Park, on Tuesday.
The day belonged to Phillies’ starter, Cole Hamels, who made major impact on the game both offensively and defensively. The 27-year-old Hamels got his first chance at bat in the third inning which he took brilliantly, hitting his career’s first triple. He
then continued to complete his run on Jimmy Rollins’s RBI single. He struck out during his second time at bat while bunted in his third at bat. He made his second hit of the game in the eighth inning but could not able to score a run despite reaching at the
third base.
After having a horrible start of the season, when he went for six massive runs in his only 2.2 inning in his first game of the seasons. Cole Hamels put up a series of great performances and managed to reduce his ERA to 2.66. In the game against Nationals
on Tuesday, Hamels completed his first game of the season that went for only one run. It took him only 108 pitches to complete his nine innings that included a 74 percent of strikes. Hamels allowed five hits and a walk in nine innings and struck out six Nationals’
hitters.
On the other hand, Nationals’ starter, Livan Hernandez had an off-day and became the victim of some quality hitting from Phillies’ batters. He allowed 10 hits and four walks in 6.1 innings, which yielded four runs for the Phillies. Hernandez is 3-3 after
this loss with a 3.57 ERA. Todd Coffey and Doug Slaten combined to pitch the remaining part of the seventh innings, while Henry Rodriguez pitched one hitter score-less eighth.
Scoring Summary:
3rd inning:
After hitting a triple, Hamels went on to complete first run for the Phillies on Rollins’ single to the centre field.
